The Critics gave it a 36% rating for their approval. There were other block buster movies out during the same time. It is said that the month of August is either a sink or swim kind of month for movie goers and results for the hard work of producing and filming a movie. As with the Children of Israel, God's expectation was for them to follow His instructions and have faith and believe that he would come through on His promises, Stephen and Alex Kendrick prayed for two years for this day.
War Room being the Kendrick Brothers' 5th movie, brought in $11 million during the release and has grossed over $25 million to date! This is the highest amount ever made for Affirm Films and the cost of $3.5 million was tripled. War Room is a movie about an African American family struggling with a relationship that is in shambles and them working to repair it through the Spiritual Discipline of prayer. The Kendrick Brothers have their hearts in the right place regarding the purpose of anything that we do. They had a Kingdom Perspective where it was concerned for the viewers: To increase/bring faith, hope, inspiration and a closer walk with God as a result of seeing this movie.
From what I can tell, God has fulfilled His purpose in the earth with this movie. It all points back to Him and His desire for all to have a winning strategy in life's dilemmas, and the items mentioned above. I was pleasantly pleased to see many people of various races, ages, etc and the theater was full! There was cheering and crying going on (I know me and my sister in Christ whom I won't name joked about not bringing tissue), and there was a genuine sense of hearts drawn to the plot and hope for a good outcome for the family.
A few nuggets that I glean from this: **SPOILER ALERT - If you have not seen this movie, there may be some spoilers for you here. Please skip all of these numbered items and go down to the last paragraph aif you don't want to know some parts of the movie! By the way.....if you're reading this post and have not seen it yet....GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!! :)
I have seen many of the Kendrick Brothers films and they deliver every time. What was so special about this one? God's divine timing and plan! I am thankful that they stood for those 530+ days to bless us with such a powerful message. For all of the critics and naysayers, that's more souls for the Kingdom! More prayer, more people considering the status of their family situations, more people spending time with the elders and children. More people understanding the power of prayer and walking out their spiritual authority. Thank you Jesus for this mighty manifestation of your power! The world can't deny it....you being the Creator of all things, have used the very idol that the world puts above you - money! How awesome is our God!

- There will always be critics. The way of the current world is that the critics influence what people go see. Jesus had the Pharisees and Sadducees there every step of the way, looking over his shoulder, criticizing him, his works and authority and plotting to kill him. The Kendrick Brothers spoke of making statements of faith according to the Word to defend themselves. It's a consistent principle that our Lord and Savior used in Matthew 4 when tempted by Satan. He said "It is written, it is written," and as these brothers have followed Jesus' example, so must we.
- It took 4 previous movies, 2 years and $3.5 million dollars. Now I don't claim to know much about the production of movies (yet - wink) but for them to say it took "Only $3.5 million" to make the movie was impressive. Considering other movies with mega-stars and car crashes and explosions to pay for, this might be pretty good! The take-away for me here is patience, endurance, persistence and faith. Once again, the Kendrick Brothers believed God for the influence of His people, and God blessed them with increase...sounds like Matthew 6:33 to me "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Enough said!
- It was mentioned that this movie gave the faith community that is selective about what comes over the big screen a movie that was trustworthy to see. I don't know how I was made aware of this movie, but it was months prior to it coming out. I could not wait! Minister Deshon and I were both in anticipation awaiting its' release. The fact that it was about prayer interested me and I shared the desire that it stir up the activity of prayer in the Body of Christ.
- The effect of marital problems on children really spoke to my heart while viewing the movie. It really hurt to see how the daughter was hurting and not in the joyful countenance of a child due to these problems in her home. They exhibited how children are like sponges and soak up everything that was going on in the home. When the parents fought, she hung her head low and melted away. When the mom was working on her prayer life, she started her own prayer list her her closet. The parents sat down with her and had appropriate conversation about father's potential outcome in a way that represented strength and unity. When the family flourished, the whole family flourished and in hard times, the "Family remained united!"
